Getting to Know The Good News Monthly Founders
Rev. Michael D. and Mrs. Mable L. Buford are co-founders and publishers of the Christian newspaper, THE GOOD NEWS MONTHLY. The newspaper began in September, 1992, and is poised to celebrate its 22nd Anniversary with the September, 2014 edition.

MABLE LAVERNE TURNER - BUFORD, co-founder and Associate Publisher of THE GOOD NEWS MONTHLY, was born in Rosenberg, TX. She attended the all black elementary school, A. W. Jackson Elementary, and graduated with honors from Lamar Consolidated High School, both in Rosenberg. She grew up in the Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. E.H. Branch, pastor. While in college, Mrs. Buford earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University in the class of 1978. Also, while at Texas A&M, she met her husband, Michael, and they were married in August, 1980. Mrs. Buford remained a stay a home mother until her children became of age. Soon thereafter, her talents were quickly utilized as executive director of the Brushy Community Day Care Center, co-owner of a video rental store, a resale shop, and a barbecue restaurant. Having some success with the previous ventures, Mrs. Buford and her husband started up their first publication, THE SILHOUETTE MAGAZINE which ran for five years. After THE SILHOUETTE MAGAZINE, Mrs. Buford utilized her degree as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for Texas Rehabilitation Commission, in Rosenberg, TX. She later became an Independent Living Specialist and Supervisor for Fort Bend County Center for Independent Living, Sugar Land, TX, until a personal illness limited her activities and required her to remain at home.

MICHAEL DWAIN BUFORD, co-founder and Publisher - Editor of THE GOOD NEWS MONTHLY, was born in Charleston, South Carolina. The family first moved to Austin, TX, and later to Dallas, TX, where Michael attended the all black elementary school, K.B. Polk Elementary. He graduated with honors from the North Dallas High School. Michael was raised in the Bethany Baptist Church, Dallas, TX, Rev. A. L. Schley, pastor, where he was active in the scouting program.

Entering the Texas A&M Maritime Academy after high school graduation, he earned college credits while touring London, England, Paris, France, Hamburg, Germany and other European cities during the Summer of 1970. He transferred to Texas A&M University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction. This was the beginning of Mr. Buford's twenty-nine year career in public education as a classroom teacher, elementary and secondary curriculum supervisor, student teacher supervisor at Texas A&M University, and a secondary administrator in Lamar CISD. In 1985, he answered the call into the ministry pastoring churches in Bryan, Rosenberg, Sealy, and San Felipe, TX. Rev. Buford has also written and published two books, UP FROM COTTON and BACK TO SCHOOL FOR PARENTS.

In June, 2007, Rev. Buford retired from public education and began to focus on THE GOOD NEWS MONTHLY. Rev. & Sis. Buford thank God that the newspaper is currently in 50 cities covering 20 counties in Southeast Texas.
